Fear

This year I have set no goals and instead am focusing on being completely present in each moment, doing things that make me happy and surrounding myself with like-minded people who inspire me. I can positively say I feel free and easy going as a result, and I can sense the Universe conspiring on my behalf. The other day, I began thinking about my career and what the future holds. Yes…the proverbial “future”, that which doesn’t exist but is a made up dream we cannot control. I felt myself reverting back to the Type-A, goal-setting me, and I told Andy that I fear what would happen if I follow my heart down an unknown path.

I don’t know what will happen; I can’t see the outcome; it’s scary.

And then he reaffirmed what I already know but continually lose sight of – this fear is not real. It lives in the future and doesn’t exist! However, we spend so much of our present life worrying or stressing about the future, and this is totally unnecessary. The key is to just take small doable steps and be present to what happens. I know what I love, and I know what I’m good at. And I have to admit, this is huge! Continuing down the path of what feels right in this moment is the best thing I can do to continue to attract good energy. Even if the path is unclear, you can feel your way in the general direction and learn valuable lessons whenever you steer off course. I am committing this to heart and growing through fear. After all, if you don’t have a little bit of fear, it must not be that important to you. So just like I tell my students in crow pose, face the fear, tip forward, and fall on your face sometimes. Then you start to realize, the consequence is not that scary; it’s the attempt that takes a ton of courage.

So here’s to consciously taking steps forward down this unlit path – lead with your heart, and the rest will follow.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.    – Marianne Williamson
